The R3 is Cydiance's 4G real-time tracker and recorder. Unlike the C1/B3/B5 single-use USB loggers, the R3 is rechargeable and reusable, and uploads data automatically over the global 4G (Cat 1 bis) network, with 2G GSM fallback when 4G is unavailable — no USB or Bluetooth readout required in normal use.

What's in the box: Device, quick-start card (points to doc.cydiance.com).

1.1 Device modes

The R3 has one physical button. In normal use it cycles through Wait, Recording, and Stop; if no button action occurs in Wait for about 1 minute, it returns to Shutdown to save power.

1.2 LCD icon reference

The R3 uploads data automatically over the cellular network. At origin, your main job is correct installation and activation.

2.1 Setup steps

1. Mount the tracker securely per your SOP.
2. Activate: press and hold the button for about 5 seconds until the LCD shows the flashing R (see §1.1). The screen will go dark on its own after a few minutes — this is normal.
3. Note the serial number on the device label — receivers can also use it to look up the trip online.
4. Confirm the device appears online (via Vista or the Cydiance App) within the expected activation window.
5. Optional: double-click the button while in Recording mode if you need to switch the LCD's temperature unit between °C and °F for on-site checks.

If the device does not appear online within the expected window, contact support@cydiance.com.

2.2 Shipment information (Vista)

Shipments and devices are managed separately in Vista. You can create a shipment first (identifiers, route, trip metadata) and associate R3 devices later — activation is not a prerequisite for linking. A single shipment can include multiple trackers (for example one unit per pallet or compartment). Vista then provides shipment-level analysis across those devices — not only per-serial views — so origin/destination teams can review the trip as one cargo movement.

Enter shipment details in Vista according to your SOP. Device serial numbers remain the lookup key for receivers who scan the QR code or search by SN (see §3).

2.3 Before you ship — battery note

The R3 uses a rechargeable Ni-MH battery pack (see §5 for full detail). Ni-MH is not a lithium chemistry and is generally exempt from lithium-battery dangerous-goods declarations for air/sea transport. Devices ship charged. Each unit is labeled with Shelf life and Service life — do not remove or deface this label (affects warranty, see §7).

The R3 pushes data online during the trip. There is no USB export step.

3.1 Scan the QR code

The fastest way to view trip data is to scan the QR code on the front of the device. This opens the shipment record directly.

3.2 Other ways to view data

• Install the Cydiance App (Android / iOS; also available on WeChat), or
• Open Vista, enter the device serial number, and search for the shipment record.

Sharing and alerts are available in the app when enabled for your account.

3.3 What the R3 tracks

In addition to temperature and humidity, the R3 detects open-box events using a light sensor (useful as a tamper/unauthorized-opening indicator) and includes a motion/acceleration sensor. Location is estimated via cell tower and WiFi positioning (assisted by Bluetooth scanning) — this is not GPS-precision tracking, but is sufficient for route/leg-level visibility.

Improper storage, installation, or shipment/container placement causing damage is not covered under warranty (see §7.2).

The R3 is powered by a built-in rechargeable Ni-MH battery pack. It is not user-replaceable and is charged through the device's USB-C port.

The R3 ships with a Ni-MH battery pack. Nickel-metal hydride is not a lithium chemistry, so lithium-battery dangerous-goods classifications do not apply to this device and it is generally exempt from lithium-battery declarations for air and sea transport. For carrier or customs questions, request the Ni-MH battery documentation below rather than relying on lithium-battery classifications.

5.3 What Cydiance can provide on request

• Battery manufacturer (BPI) spec sheet / declaration letter for the Ni-MH pack
• MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) summary
• FCC and CE-EMC compliance references, on request

5.4 Safety notes

• Do not puncture, crush, drop, or incinerate the device or its battery pack.
• Do not disassemble the device or attempt to replace the battery pack yourself.
• Charge only through the device's USB-C port, within the temperature range given in §4.
• Do not operate or store the device outside the rated conditions in §4.
• Stop using the device and contact support@cydiance.com if you notice swelling, leakage, discoloration, or an unusual smell.

Before contacting support, have ready: order reference, device serial number(s), product model (R3), description of the fault, and evidence (photos/screenshots) if available.

7.1 Coverage

• R3 hardware defects not caused by the customer, including SIM module failure, for the warranty period stated on the device label and your distributor agreement (12 months).
• Warranty period starts on arrival at the distributor unless otherwise agreed in writing.
• Within the labeled Shelf life / Service life, a battery-related failure preventing documented operation is warranty-eligible (subject to evaluation).

7.2 Exclusions (highlights)

• Physical damage, unauthorized disassembly/modification/repair
• Operation or storage outside the specified temperature ranges (§4)
• Removed/defaced labels or serial numbers (including Shelf life / Service life markings)
• Battery end-of-life wear after labeled Shelf life / Service life
• Improper storage, installation, or shipment placement
• Cargo loss, spoilage, or business interruption — the R3 is a monitoring tool, not covered

7.3 How to request service

1. Contact your authorized Cydiance partner or support@cydiance.com.
2. Provide order reference, serial number(s), model, and fault description.
3. Wait for return authorization before shipping devices back — follow battery packaging/safety instructions when returning units (Ni-MH pack; see §5).
